The Institute’s Manuscript Department engages in various types of scholarly and practical projects involving the one half of the Árni Magnússon Manuscript Collection, which was turned over to the Icelandic nation during the years 1971- 1997. The Manuscript Collection is preserved under the best possible conditions, and emphasis is placed on its augmentation, maintenance, and cataloguing.
Research is conducted on the texts of the manuscripts, often in cooperation with various other parties involved in manuscript studies.
Numerous textual editions and scholarly works are constantly under preparation, as well as facsimile editions of manuscripts and the journal Gripla.
The manuscripts are being digitally photographed, and photograph orders are filled on request.
