CIPL. Comité international de paléographie latine. The Institute's representative is Guðvarður Már Gunnlaugsson.

COST. An European network for research institutes. The Institute taks part in   IS1005 "Medioevo Europeo".  The Intstitute's representatives are Svanhildur Óskarsdóttir og Guðvarður Már Gunnlaugsson. Collaboration between The National- and University Library of Iceland og Nordisk forskningsinstitut in Copenhagen about digital cataloguing of manuscripts and their publication on the web. Project manager for the Institute is Sigurgeir Steingrímsson.

MENOTA. Medieval Nordic Text Archive. The Institute's representative is  Guðvarður Már Gunnlaugsson.

NNE = Nordisk netværk for editionsfilologer. Margrét Eggertsdóttir, Svanhildur Óskarsdóttir  og Guðvarður Már Gunnlaugsson are the Institute's representatives.

Nordiskt netværk for renaissancestudier .  Margrét Eggertsdóttir is the Institute's representative.

Nordhymn. A project at Nordisk institut för hymnologi, at the University in Lund. Margrét Eggertsdóttir is the Institut's representative.

Flateyjarbók. Translation into Norse of the complete text of Flateyjarbók (The book of Flatey). Gísli Sigurðsson is one of the editors in this project.

Language and linguistics

Arbejdsgruppe – klarsprog i Norden. The Institute's representatives are  Ari Páll Kristinsson and Jóhannes B. Sigryggsson.

EFNIL (European Federation of National Institutions for Language) The Institute's representative is Jóhannes B. Sigtryggsson.

META-NORD (2011-2013). Collaboration between i Máltækniseturs ,  TILDE SIA, Latvia, The Copenhagen University, Center for Sprogteknologi, The University in Tartu, Bergen University, Institutt for lingvisktiske, litterære og estetiske studier, The University in Helsinki, Institute of the Lithuanian Language, Litháen and the University in Gothenburg, Spraakbanken. The Institute's representative is Sigrún Helgadóttir.

Nordterm og EAFT og INFOTERM. The Institute's representative is  Ágústa Þorbergsdóttir.

N'CLAV (Nordic collaboration on language variation) Ásta Svavarsdóttir is an Icelandic representative in the board of the network.

The Coordinating Committee for Nordic Studies Abroad.The Institute collaborates with bodies abroad, mostly in the Nordic countries, on a variety of projects. The committee awards grants to guest lecturers for cultural promotion, and organizes conferences on the teaching of Nordic languages. Nordic languages are tought at 240 universities in the world. The Institute's representative is Úlfar Bragason

Network of the Nordic language committies' offices,  cooperation on the subject of linguistic advice, research, technical matters and the edition of Språk i Norden a.o.  The Institute's representative is Jóhannes B. Sigtryggsson.

SLICE (Standard Language Ideology in Contemporary Europe).  (Ari Páll Kristinsson and Ásta Svavarsdóttir).

Name studies

NORNA.  Norna publishes Namn och Bygd. Hallgrímur J. Ámundason is the Institute's representative in the board of  NORNA.

ICOS. A membership through  NORNA. Hallgrímur J. Ámundason is the Institute's representative.

Study and teaching

The Institute administrates the teaching of Icelandic abroad and service for the Icelandic teachers at foreign universities for the Icelandic government. There is support to Icelandic teaching in 18 Universities in  Europe, USA, Canada, Japan and China and will soon be also in India. Old Icelandic is tought in about 100 universities abroad, modern Icelandic at  40.  The Institute's representative is Úlfar Bragason.

ELN PLUS. Representative is Guðrún Laufey Guðmundsdóttir.

NORDKURS. Summer courses for Nordic students. Úlfar Bragason represents the University of Iceland in the committee and is its chairman.

International Summer School in Manuscript Studies. In collaboration with Nordisk forskningsinstitut in Copenhagen and the universities in Tübingen, Zürich og Cambridge. The Institute's representative is Svanhildur Óskarsdóttir.

Medieval master studies funded by The Nordic Council of Ministers. In cooperation with The University of Iceland and the universities in Oslo, Copenhagen and Aaros. The institute's representative is  Gísli Sigurðsson.

Summer courses in modern Icelandic  in cooperation with The University of Minnesota for students in North America. Representatives are Úlfar Bragason and Guðrún Laufey Guðmundsdóttir.

TERMDIST. Participation in Nordic distant teaching in terminology. The Institute's representant is Ágústa Þorbergsdóttir.

The Institute has also participated in projects and presentations at conferences in the European countries, North-Amercia, Japan, China and India. Representant is Úlfar Bragason.


Nordic folklorists network. Projects on mythology, communication and memory research  in cooperation with  UCLA, the universities in Zürich og Stavanger, Aaros and Harvard. Representative is Gísli Sigurðsson.

Network of Nordic folkmusic specialists working in museums. Meetings are alternately in the Nordic countries. The Institutes representative is Rósa Þorsteinsdóttir.

Cooperation with Svend Nielsen, Dansk Folkemindesamling about the edition of CDs with 10 Icelandic folklore singers recorded in Iceland in the seventies of last century.  Rósa Þorsteinsdóttir is the Institute's representative.


ARLIS Norden. Nordic art libraries which are members of IFLA. The Institute's representative is Ólöf Benediktsdóttir.
